The Challenge

Develop the layout of a new website for the Institute that gathers and preserves a rich collection of documents and personal objects, in addition to recreating the studio of artist Wesley Duke Lee, taking the form of a house museum.

Currently, the space has a cultural and social role and is considered a center of memory for present and future generations of researchers, friends, admirers of his art, and other artists who seek inspiration from his deep knowledge.

The Artist

Wesley Duke Lee was born on December 21, 1931, in São Paulo, a descendant of North Americans on the paternal side (William Bowman Lee Jr.) and Portuguese on the maternal side (Odilia de Oliveira Lee).

The artist began his studies at the São Paulo Museum of Art and moved to the United States, where he studied at the Parsons School for Design, in New York, until 1955.

Wesley founded a style named Magical Realism, had his work exhibited in several countries, and in 1965 he was internationally acclaimed, winning the international painting prize at the 8th Tokyo Biennale and being individually exhibited at the Tokyo Gallery.

The Project

The idea for the project, developed with Agência e Produtora OQF, was to create a clean and modern layout, enriching the photos and information about the institute and the artist Wesley Duke Lee.
The new site, offers the user more information with fewer clicks, introducing the artist and the institute in a quick and easy way to absorb.
The page diagram has reduced the number of pages on the site to facilitate user navigation.
The color palette is neutral and chosen to keep the focus on the content.
The typography chosen is modern, grotesque (sans serif), and high in readability.
The layout of the pages and the work of art blend diversely so that the wireframe differs on each page.
Some of the notes, pieces of collage clippings, and drawings that convey the artist unique identity to the website.
